U.S. INCARCERATION RATE IS THE HIGHEST IN THE WORLD

I'd like to commend Mary Sulem for her June 25 letter pleading for maximum
sentences for marijuana offenders. Even though the United States has the
highest incarceration rate in the world and the most people behind bars, she
wants to increase that number by locking up marijuana users, growers, and
sellers.

I, for one, will feel safer when all pot heads are off the street. I don't
care how many jails we need to build.

And after we get rid of all the marijuana offenders, we could then set our
sights on the real problem in this country -- people with idiotic ideas. Or
better yet, maybe we should just lock up everyone and make them prove that
they'll be good citizens before they are released into society.
