COMPOSITION OF NEW ANTI-DRUG BODY QUESTIONED

BACOLOD City Mayor Luzviminda Valdez will look into the complaint of Insp.
Jonathan Lorilla, Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) chief, on the composition of
the new Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (Aidtf).

According to Lorilla, certain members of the task force have questionable
backgrounds.

"There is a need to look into this. I need to confer with Lorilla since it
involves the members' credibility. It is better that members should not be
involved in any pending case or administrative case," said Valdez.

On the other hand, Bacolod City Police Director George Bajelot said he is
in favor of putting poison on confiscated illegal drugs.

That way the illegal substance would no longer be recycled, said Senior
Superintendent Bajelot.

However, he is not amenable to vigilanteism.

"Killing suspected individuals is not right as the allegations against them
may not be true," said Bajelot.

He also appealed to Bacolodnons to inform the police of the identities of
suspected drug pushers and financiers.

"Just tell us. We will just ask you to identify them and we will take care
of it," said Bajelot.

On the other hand, Chief Insp. Rizaldy Navarro, city jail warden, said that
visitors who will bring illegal drugs inside the prison cells will be arrested.

He said they have detailed personnel to search jail visitors.

The measure came after reports that an illegal drug-making machine was
discovered inside the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City.
