ILLS OF SOCIETY EASILY TRACEABLE TO MARIJUANA USE
Highlights from the wonderful world of marijuana over the past month:
In Upcountry Maui, a car knocks out a power pole, cutting off power to local
residences; a bag of pot is found on the front seat of the vehicle that did
the damage.
A Maui man is sentenced for causing an auto accident that took the life of a
17-year-old Maui woman. He had been smoking marijuana and "ice" before the
crash.
On Oahu, a 17-year-old said he smoked marijuana before breaking into a
house; when the owner returned home, the pot smoker shot him in the chest
with a .45 pistol, critically injuring the homeowner.
On Molokai, police making marijuana eradication sweeps strongly suspect pot
growers intentionally set brush fires that endangered the community and the
firefighters who had to battle the blazes.
And true believer pot advocates like Jim Miller from New Jersey (Letters,
July 3) continue to insist marijuana is OK. And, The Maui News continues to
publish abysmally misguided missives, which I think is truly a disservice to
this community.
Marijuana is bad news across the board and anyone who doesn't see that is
dead wrong.
