LEGALIZING POT A SOCIETAL DECISION

What a world we live in! Golfer John Daly is criticized for being
photographed smoking a legal substance, a cigarette (Letters, July 14).
Brahm Shuster is outraged Daly has not been censored. On the
facing opinion page, a man is photographed smoking a joint, with the
accompanying article by Jody Paterson slyly advocating the legalization of
marijuana. Where is our perspective?

The decision to smoke cigarettes is a personal one, involving personal
responsibility for the consequences. The legalization of marijuana is a
social decision that affects everyone since I think even Paterson will
agree marijuana alters users' judgment.

I am stunned at the juxtaposition of these two pictures and the
accompanying commentaries.
