TAINTED MUFFINS MAKE 7 STUDENTS, TEACHER SICK
Seven teenage students and a teacher were taken to a Terrebonne
hospital yesterday after they fell ill from eating muffins believed to
be laced with drugs.
Tests are going to be done to determine what was in the
muffins.
The students, age 16 to 18, attend the Centre de Formation
Professionnelle des Riverains, a trade school in Repentigny.
All eight people were taken to the Centre Hospitalier Pierre Le
Gardeur by ambulances after a 911 call was made from the school at
10:37 a.m.
The eight victims showed signs of intoxication and complained of
dizziness and heart palpitations. One passed out.
Most were released from the hospital by early afternoon.
There was no need to pump any patient's stomach, hospital officials
said.
An 18-year old man accused of making and distributing the muffins was
detained after the prank, said Guy Belair, assistant director of the
Repentigny police department.
The teenager could face criminal charges, pending the tests of the
muffins' contents, Belair said.
