STOP CODDLING STATE PRISONERS:
This is a response to the article printed on July 7, titled "Nowhere to
go." Why should the taxpayers of Alabama continue to support the people who
are released from prison?
I have to go to work every day; why can't these people do the same? It is
my understanding that while in prison the inmates are supposed to be able
to return rehabilitated to the world on the outside.
Instead of putting these people in halfway houses, tell them to find a job
and get on with their lives. If a person can't get drug-free after being in
prison for a few years, then no amount of drug treatment will help and that
would be a waste of money.
These people should read an article printed the same day as "Nowhere to go"
about Matricia Nelson. If this young lady can take the hand that life dealt
her and turn it into a winning hand, then anyone who really wants to can.
Quit petting the people who commit crimes, and maybe they will quit
committing crimes.
