SUN SENSIBLE ON POT ISSUE
In response to Thursday's editorial, Pot file a foul mess, I want to thank
The Winnipeg Sun for continuing to report on the marijuana issue in a sane
and sensible manner.
People are finally realizing that marijuana prohibition, at a cost of
hundreds of millions of dollars a year in taxes, just doesn't make sense.
Cannabis users across Canada have heard the decriminalization tale and know
it is nothing more than a tool to make it easier to punish users. The
editorial is correct in pointing out the rising involvement of organized
crime under the proposed decriminalization. People won't stop using pot,
they will just be buying it under riskier circumstances.
As baffling as the Liberal position on pot is, I still prefer their
ineptitude to the outright hostility of the Canadian Alliance. Randy White,
a popular Alliance MP, would like to see stronger penalties and more legal
interference against marijuana users.
Interesting that a party that preaches responsible government spending
would actually increase the taxpayer resources used on the worthless war on
pot.
