WAR ON DRUGS LIES NEEDED TO BE EXPOSED

The Maui News deserves praise for recognizing a pattern of misinformation that
has continued throughout the history of the war on drugs (Editorial, Aug. 6).
It is a pattern of taxpayer-funded deception that has been going on for
decades.

The recent federal prosecutor's use of bogus statistics in Hawaii is an
apparent attempt to try and convince state lawmakers to weaken Hawaii's
constitutional search-and-seizure and wire-tap requirements.

Finally, the drug war lies seem to be no longer accepted at face value. Thank
you for taking this courageous position.
