TERROR LINK SEEN IN DRUG BUST
VANCOUVER -- A police drug raid that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old
Vancouver man on the weekend was related to an RCMP investigation of a
possible Canadian link to the al-Qaeda terrorist network, BCTV news
reported yesterday.
The unidentified man plunged seven stories to the ground from his West End
apartment Saturday morning in a doomed attempt to escape police who were
coming through the front door.
The TV station said an anti-terrorism unit of the RCMP was involved in the
raid, looking into whether the suspect was part of a large, Vancouver-based
operation suspected of funnelling drug money to al-Qaeda.
The Vancouver police department's heavily-armed emergency response team
also took part in the raid.
