COPS CRIPPLE TWO DRUG RINGS WITH ARREST OF SEVEN

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled two syndicates which have been
distributing drugs in the Klang Valley with the arrest of seven people
and the seizure of 120 slabs of ganja earlier this week.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 52, were detained under Section 39B
of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, for having 117.01kg of ganja, with a
street value of over RM163,814.

The suspects have been remanded for 14 days.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects got their supply
from the same supplier in the northern region.

Bukit Aman Anti-Narcotics deputy director Senior Asst Comm I Datuk
Mangsor Ismail said the first operation was carried out about 1am on
Monday when the Anti-Narcotics team led by Assistant Supt Rajab Ahad
Ismail raided a house in Kampung Baru here.

"The police team seized 114 slabs of ganja, compressed and wrapped in
aluminium foil in the kitchen as three of suspects were dividing the
ganja into smaller portions.

"Police arrested four people including a Thai illegal immigrant,
believed to be one of the suspects' wife. The arrests were made
following a tip-off from the public," he said.

The Star learnt that during the raid, the couple's children, aged
between four and 10, were sleeping in the bedroom. It is also learnt
that three of the male suspects were planning to pack the ganja into
smaller portions and distribute them to buyers by dawn.

At another raid, a team led by Chief Insp Yap Huat Tian from the Bukit
Aman Anti-Narcotics Unit, seized six slabs of ganja weighing 5.6kg
from a taxi booth near the Danau Idaman Condominium in Old Klang Road
here.

SAC I Mangsor said police arrested three of the taxi's occupants,
including the taxi driver, who was heading towards the city at 5am on
Tuesday.
