NORTH-END HOUSE RAIDED
Two Adults, Youth Charged With Drug-Related Offences
HEAVILY armed police converged on a fortified north-end house yesterday
afternoon and made several arrests.
Two adults and a youth were charged with several drug offences after police
executed a search warrant at 126 Selkirk Ave.
Police say the residence is a clubhouse for a street gang known as the
Ruthless Posse, a spinoff group of the Indian Posse gang.
Sgt. Danny Smyth of the Drug Unit said extra precautions were taken because
of numerous reports of illegal activity at the house since late last year.
In particular, a report of gunshots in the area uncovered a grow operation
at the home in April. Quantities of marijuana and cocaine were seized at
that time.
"Because of the earlier shooting and the fact the house was heavily
fortified, the Emergency Response Unit was called in," Smyth said. "This
was a clean-up of (the April bust). "We are doing what we can to rid the
neighbourhood of this group."
An area resident, who heard the shootings back in the spring, said
yesterday there's always plenty of traffic in the area from drug buyers.
"You'd have to be a fool not to know what's going on," the neighbour said.
"They don't usually bother us, but it'd be nice if this area got cleaned up."
As a result of a joint investigation between the Drug Unit, District 3
community officers, and the Organized Crime Unit, three arrests were made.
Shane Guiboche, 21, was arrested and charged with possession for the
purpose of trafficking, while 19-year-old Tonda McDonald of no fixed
address was arrested and charged with possession of a narcotic.
A 17-year-old male youth of Winnipeg was arrested and charged with
possession for the purpose of trafficking. All three were arrested without
incident. Several more arrests are pending.
The Ruthless Posse is primarily involved in street-level trafficking of
marijuana and cocaine in the city, Smyth said.
The Selkirk Avenue home is heavily barricaded, with wood braces on the
doors and metal mesh on the windows.
"We've hit this residence a number of times in the past. There have been
continual problems with this particular house," Smyth said.HEAVILY armed
