CASH REWARDS UP FOR ANTI-DRUG CRUSADERS
CASH rewards will be given to officials and residents of waterfront barangays
who have aided law enforcers in the arrest and prosecution of drug pushers,
financiers and users.
Senior Supt. Felix Muchada, Task Force Waterfront head, in a memorandum to city
and police officials said the reward scheme was agreed between him and the
barangay captains during their meeting last Wednesday at the Police Regional
Office headquarters in Camp Delgado.
Among those furnished copies of the memorandum were Iloilo City Mayor Jerry
Trenas, Rep. Raul Gonzalez Sr. and PRO 6 Director Marcelo Navarro Jr.
"A barangay chairman who helps their barangay become drug-free will receive
cash reward. Cash will (also) be rewarded to anybody who leads in the arrest
and filing of a case against drug financers/pushers/users," the memorandum
states.
The barangays located within the Waterfront area are Zamora-Melliza, Duran,
Concepcion, Muelle Loney, Legaspi, Gen. Hughes, Veteran's Village and Monica
(Blumentritt).
Also, the curfew for minors will be strictly enforced in these villages.
Barangay tanods will assist the police personnel assigned in their areas.
There will be at least two tanods for every checkpoint/outpost to support the
police personnel. They are required to wear proper uniform and are not allowed
to bring firearms or deadly weapon.
Carrying of firearms outside residence without the proper permits is also
prohibited.
The increase of security activities at the Waterfront came in the wake of
drug-related incidents in the area and the call of the City Council on the TFW
to strengthen their anti-drug campaign.
