IF STATE IS AGAINST SUBSTANCE ABUSE, IT MUST TAKE ON THE BOOZE INDUSTRY

I'm sure Gov. Frank Murkowski and Attorney General Gregg Renkes are very
much against substance abuse, as indicated in "Court affirms right to
possess pot" (Aug. 30).

I am as well.

Of course they must know that alcohol is a substance that is abused far more
than marijuana in any environment, rural or otherwise.

However, the fellow growing a plant or two in the basement donates little to
political campaigns. It is easier to squash the little guy, rather than
those with real money.

Image is everything to our politicians; thinking is not.
