DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE WITH YOUR KIDS

I am writing as a matter of concern for all of our children. Last
year, my 4th-grade child said that during a party at school, one of
her classmates was snorting "smarties." Remember the penny candy in
rolls? I just made the mistake of laughing it off as a ludicrous idea.

Boy, what a mistake that was! In the 5th grade, it's teen Midol! Yes,
I'm serious. Teen Midol? I found her trying to convince her buddy to
do it also. She was willing to do anything to just belong, including
jeopardizing her mental and physical well-being.

I just want parents to be aware of this new idea of kids today. I was
surprised as anyone could be.

We have a good drug-free home and do not let her play with anyone we
think may not be able to watch her as only we can.

Upon questioning her further, we learned she and a couple classmates
were snorting Midol during recess at school. I am not blaming the
school or myself; I'm just making others aware so they can watch for
these new activities of 12-year-olds, be it at school or home.

Don't make my mistake. Listen to your children and don't let it
surprise you too.

I pray for all parents and children to not make my mistakes.
