DATE RAPE DRUGS CALLED 'WEAPONS'
OTTAWA -- The Canadian Alliance launched a campaign yesterday to raise
awareness about date-rape drugs and push the government to classify such
drugs as weapons.
MP James Moore kicked off the campaign at Carleton University in Ottawa.
He has introduced a private member's motion in Parliament calling on the
Liberal government to classify date-rape drugs as weapons in the Criminal
Code and to establish new national guidelines on the collection and
documentation of evidence in sexual assault.
"Date-rape drugs have become violent weapons used to victimize women. It is
long overdue for the government to act,"said Moore.
