THE POINT OF SAFE INJECTION SITES
The point of safe injection sites is not to sanction heroin use.
("HIGH absurdity," Jose Rodriguez, Sept 19.) And they do not, despite
the rhetoric in this column. What safe injection sites sanction is
prevention of diseases and overdose deaths. And, in the process, the
site provides addicts with a contact point for rehabilitation services
- - one they won't get while shooting up in an alley, using a dirty
needle and ditchwater. Before he starts accusing safe injection
supporters of quitting being humans, he should look in the mirror. His
humanity certainly was not evident in the article.
