AND BY THE WAY ...

Re: Sandra Camara's Sept. 25 letter.

I haven't gotten the whole story about what happened when the
suspected "drug dealer" was shot the other day. However, there's
something I would like to point out in her letter that just doesn't
really connect.

The Collier County Sheriff's Office is serving a warrant on a
suspected "drug dealer." No real threat is known. But you don't really
know, do you? It's a rather docile scene. But like I said, I wasn't
there.

Fifth Avenue South is a good one. A man robs an establishment, holds
people at gunpoint and then locks them in the freezer. The man had the
bad luck to run into a cop who was an extremely experienced officer. I
don't see how you can tackle a man who has a gun out and is turning
towards you. Oh, and by the way, the officer was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Then there's River Reach. What's that? Oh, she must mean the incident
with police and the young man who was waving a gun around and shooting
it off in River Park? I wonder if Ms. Camara has even ever been in
River Park. I bet not. I have. Oh, and by the way, that lieutenant was
cleared of any wrongdoing too.

My point here is that all three of these situations are different. How
can you compare? Hindsight is 20/20. Ms. Camara, you weren't there.
It's easy to judge people who do things that you would never even want
to.
