REFUGEE POSTER BOY

RE "DRUG war refugee" (Sun, Sept. 29): Well, we finally have a poster boy
for all that is wrong with our federal refugee policies. Here is an alleged
criminal fleeing prosecution for importing drugs into the U.S. and claiming
refugee status in Canada "due to his political opinion - which is his
opposition to the war on drugs." It is going to cost over $100,000 to
deport him and, in the meantime, he is free here, and can apply for health
care, welfare and housing. So the total cost will be much higher. These are
our tax dollars, people, supporting alleged criminals. Hello! And you
wonder why the U.S. wants to make the border tighter?
