NEIGHBORS WON'T SIT QUIETLY IN CLINIC FIGHT
IN YOUR Sept. 21 news article "Planned methadone clinic worries neighbors,"
officials of the Life Center state that the community's fears about its
proposed location are "misplaced."
Do those officials and staff live in neighborhoods that house methadone
clinics? They cannot guarantee that the safety and property values of those
who live in this peaceful community aren't in jeopardy.
Some communities cited in the article became "thriving drug market[s]."
Will Life Center's officials reimburse us fairly for our homes if this
operation fails? How will they replace our lost sense of security?
Even if the clinic cannot be stopped through legal tactics, surely Dr.
William Ball can discontinue this lease under moral obligation to the
community that helped him get started.
While the Life Center tries to improve the ruined lives of drug addicts,
its presence in our community threatens to destroy the lives of honest,
hard-working citizens. We'll not sit quietly while it attempts to do this
to us.
