STICKER CAMPAIGN RAISES DRUG AWARENESS

A new community initiative launched by the Leduc Community Drug Action
Committee (LCDAC) is encouraging businesses, organizations and
individuals to help them raise awareness on local drug issues.

The LCDAC Window Sticker campaign, which officially went underway at
the June Leduc and District Chamber luncheon, is a program where
individuals display the stickers predominately in their windows
symbolizing their commitment to a, "zero tolerance of the growing drug
problem within our community."

"They're a good visual tool," said Shawna Bissell, the LCDAC
facilitator. "We're trying to create awareness within the community
about the committee and the issues in the area."

The sticker can be purchased for $25. Along with the sticker,
participating businesses will be provided with updates and information
from the committee, as well as an open invitation to all LCDAC events.

"Anyone that walks by a home or business displaying the sticker will
know they support a drug resilient community. It'll generate interest
and conversation of the drug issues in Leduc," she said.

Bissell said the goal of the program is to entice the sticker holder
to report any suspicious activity and to be aware of what's going on
in their premises.

"It shows that the drug culture in Leduc is not OK," said Bissell.
"People don't understand the seriousness of drug issues. They are so
concerned with the hard drugs that they don't realize alcohol and
marijuana are problems, as well.

"Just because someone isn't using meth, but marijuana, doesn't mean
they don't have a drug problem."
