CANADA: PREMIER MAY TRY MARIJUANA
Prime Minister Jean Chretien, whose government is pushing for legislation
that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana, said
he might give it a try once it is no longer a criminal offense and only
tickets are handed out. Mr. Chretien, 69, who has announced that he will
step down in February, said in an interview with The Winnipeg Free Press:
"Perhaps I will try it when it will no longer be criminal. I will have my
money for my fine and a joint in the other hand."
