DRUG TRAFFICKING, CONSUMPTION RISES IN NBD
Banjul
Police sources in NBD have breathed to The Independent that drug
trafficking and consumption is on the up in the northern part of the country.
A source said the situation is worse in Farafenni and its surroundings.
The source, a law enforcement officer, said the police would intensify its
drugs war. The police, he stressed, will not spare anybody caught with
prohibited drugs. He denied allegations that police officers often connive
with traffickers as they are meant to give a bad name to the police force.
"The police is one family and to enforce the law is our mission," he
maintained.
The Independent was reliably informed that some drug traffickers in
Farafenni were raided and some large quantity of cannabis found in their
possession. They were then whisked off in a waiting police pickup with
registration number GFP 7ffn, belonging to the Farafenni Police Station.
The Officer Commanding Farafenni division, Pa Sylva, could not be reached
for details but an insider confirmed the arrest but stopped short of giving
further details.
Meanwhile many Farafenni residents lauded the raids ad drugs trafficking
was rife in the area.
