WILL RUSH WALK?

Thanks for publishing Scott Russ's outstanding letter ("It's time to put an
end to the double-standard `War on drugs,' " Oct. 4). A well- known white
Republican talk show host is being investigated for purchasing huge amounts
of prescription narcotic pain killers illegally on the black market.

If this had been somebody by the name of Willie, Tyrone or Jose - in other
words, a black or brown person - the investigation would be conducted by a
SWAT team at 4 a.m.

This famous celebrity has friends in high places, so obviously he will be
given breaks that ordinary people would not get.

When rich white men start going to prison for purchasing illegal drugs, the
days of our counterproductive war on drugs are numbered.
