CANNABIS ISSUE UNDERSTOOD

I must take issue with Alun Buffry of the Legalise Cannabis Alliance in his
assertion that council "do not know the issues involved" in the argument
over cannabis (Times Post, October 2)

As someone who was for many years heavily involved, through my employment
in the NHS, in the area of drugs and drug addiction I fully understand the
differing view points on this issue.

As an executive member of Braintree Council I am very willing to give up my
time to discuss the issue.

What I am not prepared to do is to commit any resources of the council to
the issue.

Why? Because I do not believe the hard-pressed council taxpayer of
Braintree want their money spent on taking up the cause of a very small
pressure group.
