ADMIT IT: THE WAR ON DRUGS HAS BEEN LOST

Re: Put The Gangs Out Of Business: Legalize Drugs, Michael C. Chettleburgh,
June 13.

As a police officer, I helped spend (US)$1-trillion to arrest some 37
million Americans for drug offences. The return on that investment is
that, today, drugs are cheaper, stronger and much easier to find than
in 1971.

Mr. Chettleburgh's idea of selling all drugs in a legal, regulated and
taxed market was spot on. Here in the U.S., our government believes
one million teens are in the business of selling drugs, a job which
gets them shot, killed or sucked into a life of crime. It is simply
immoral to endorse a policy that gives teens a job option which gets
them killed.
