HYPOCRISY ILLUSTRATES INEFFICIENCY OF DRUG POLICY

I'm amazed that anybody can consider Rush Limbaugh "a great American" due
to his "honesty and courage" for admitting his addiction. Outspoken
Limbaugh epitomizes hypocrisy. Limbaugh was quoted saying, "Too many whites
are getting away with drug use. The answer is to... find the ones who are
getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river." But you
don't see Limbaugh checking himself into a jail, and it doesn't take
courage to admit to your sins after you get caught!

The pills that Limbaugh bought by the thousands in a parking lot from a
dealer are several times as addictive as heroin. According to current drug
policy, Limbaugh is no different than anybody who buys marijuana, crack or
heroin.

Should Limbaugh go to jail? No. But neither should the other tens of
thousands of Americans who have done exactly the same thing as Limbaugh,
but who are not wealthy and white.

Limbaugh's situation illustrates that our nation's drug policy is an utter
failure, and I believe it's time to try something different. Let's leave it
to our churches, schools and families take on the drug war with
understanding, love, and persuasion. Let law enforcement concentrate on the
real criminals that harm people other than themselves. Maybe that's what
Limbaugh will want now.
