TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Editor, Naples Daily News:
It's not easy being a Democrat in Naples.
Sometimes it feels like the weight of the whole conservative world is
bearing down on you. So when something happens to expose the seamy
underbelly of that world there is nothing to do but ... gloat.
For example, when the No. 1 conservative voice in the media turns out to be
a pill-popping drug addict at the center of an alleged Oxycontin smuggling
ring. Irony, anyone? I mean, all those years he was bad- mouthing Bill
Clinton for smoking a little doobage in college he was probably stoned out
of his mind on illegally-obtained painkillers!
I don't know who should be more mortified right now -- Rush for being such
a loud-mouthed hypocrite or all his wannabe fans for following his
drug-induced rantings.
Jeez, Rush, couldn't you just say "no"?
Does this mean that all the "dittoheads" will start popping pills too? Will
"Rush Rooms" (if there are any left, that is) turn into 21st- century opium
dens for the conservative elite?
The sad thing is that if Rush ever does get convicted, some liberal judge
will probably take pity on him and there will be one more addict back out
on the streets where he'll just be a threat to the "decent people." God
help us all.
