SIGNS JUST HURT THE SELLERS

THE EDITOR:

Re: 'Beware: You're buying a grow-op,' Times, Oct. 10.

I applaud the efforts of people to take control back from criminal elements
that invades our neighbourhoods.

Criminal activity flourishes in areas of indifference and apathy.

However, I fail to see what is gained by making a big deal out of what used
to be in a house, whether it was a grow-op or a brothel or the location of
a murder.

For the prospective buyer, the important info would be what is going on
around that house. The hardest thing about buying a home is judging the
quality of the neighbourhood and surrounding community.

The growers are not likely to be the owners of the house, so forcing the
sale price down is not affecting the criminals.

Besides, a $30,000 difference between listing and selling price is not
unusual. It is sad and a concern that even with good intelligence provided
by the community the police are so hamstrung by red tape and staffing
issues that arrests are not made before the criminals pack up and leave.
