HIGH SCHOOL COPS BUSY CHASING DRUGS

Having police officers in high schools is paying off in Wellington County.

With the marijuana harvest season coinciding with the first month of
school, Wellington County OPP youth liaison officers were kept busy
handling drug-related incidents in September.

The officers at Centre Wellington, Erin and Norwell district high schools
reported 40 incidents involving drugs. Thirty-two were for possession of a
drug, five were for trafficking and there were three other related drug
infractions. Police laid charges only in the trafficking and other related
infractions cases.
