ISN'T JUSTICE BLIND?

Re: "Not an ordinary drug addict," and "Yes, wealth has its benefits," Your
Opinions, Oct. 22.

Geoff Hughes and Ron Rickerfor attempt to justify Rush Limbaugh's use of
drugs by making a distinction between him and the poor, black drug user.
Geoff Hughes' argument is that since Limbaugh is addicted to prescription
drugs and not hallucinatory drugs he is not a danger to society. Ron
Rickerfor can see nothing wrong with preferred treatment due to color and
influence; after all, opportunities exist for all.

They each ignore one stubborn fact. Rush Limbaugh broke the law, just as
lesser mortals have.

It shouldn't matter whether he's rich or poor. The law should neither favor
him nor hold that against him. This is the essence of justice, or it should
be.

The false notion that the rich deserve special treatment is abhorrent.
Wealth should be the only reward for success; the justice system shouldn't
be obliged to help the wealthy out in a jam.
