DEATH TO DRUG TRAFFICKERS?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: This is in response to an opinion authored by Calvin Daigle ("New
drug policy would aid U.S.," Oct. 17) stating that drug traffickers should
be put to death here in the United States as in some countries he has
visited, such as Singapore and Indonesia.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This insane practice or promise of their governments certainly has not
stopped the trafficking of drugs from or to any country. This is by far the
most revolting article I have read concerning drug laws in our country.

People who use mind-altering substances have done so since the beginning of
time and will continue until the last man draws his last breath on this
earth. Manmade laws will never, ever stop this practice.

Death to drug traffickers? Does mr. Daigle realize that a person can be
charged with trafficking just for carrying a marijuana cigarette across a
state line? Does this person deserve to die? Does he realize that even a
murderer, rapist or child molester can be released back into society?

The point is that prohibition does not work. It creates crime and causes
unbelievable corruption at all levels of our police and judicial systems.
This is a multi-billion dollar industry that feeds our own government and
the entire world banking system.

I feel that Mr. Daigle would be quite elated to work with U.S. Attorney
General John Ashcroft, who is trying his best, and succeeding, to
completely destroy our Constitution and our Bill of Rights.

I also feel that if Mr. Daigle loves the laws of Indonesia or Singapore so
much, then he should just move there, stay there and write articles in
their papers.
