REGULATION SAFER THAN PROHIBITION
Bill Kushniryk ("Letters to the Editor," Oct. 30) needs to study some
history. Alcohol wasn't decriminalized because it was safe. It was made
legal again because regulating alcohol was safer than prohibition. When was
the last time you heard of a shootout because of an alcohol deal gone bad?
Or the last time there were reports of boobytraps set up to guard a
microbrewery?
Do you want a cashier to tell your kid he can't have pot unless they see
some ID, or do you want a Hells Angel that only wants to see some money?
Jay Hunter
(That seems like an oversimplification of the alternatives to us)
