SOMETHING HAS GONE DESPERATELY WRONG

RE: "COURT backs cop tactic," Nov. 4. Thanks to this decision by our Court
of Appeal, our police may now legally sell ephedrine, at least, to "known"
drug dealers who "appear to be active in their field," in an ongoing series
of methamphetamine manufacturing "reverse-sting" operations. When police
are both asking for ever-increasing budgets to combat the scourge of meth
labs and supplying the raw ephedrine to get the lab operational, something
has gone desperately wrong. Will they be supplying the raw materials for
any other kinds of dangerous and highly explosive manufacturing processes
we should know about? After all, if this kind of "novel undercover tactic"
works with getting meth-manufacturing operations up and running so
successfully, why not use it with other threats to our security?
