FAIRVIEW SCHOOLS PLAN RANDOM DRUG TESTING

FAIRVIEW -- A random drug-testing program is being developed for
students in extracurricular activities at Fairview Public Schools. The
U.S. Supreme Court authorized drug testing of students involved in
such activities as the school choir last year when it ruled in favor
of an Oklahoma school district that adopted a random drug testing policy.

Fairview Superintendent Rocky Burchfield said students participating
in everything from athletics to the chess club will be subject to drug
tests.

Burchfield said about five students per grade per month will be tested
randomly for drug use. He said he hopes to begin testing in January.
