MORE DRUG ARRESTS, SAYS PROVINCIAL POLICE BUREAU, REGION 5

Elimination Of Major Drug Dealers Within 60 Days Claimed

Police Lt. Gen Chalor Choowong, commissioner of the Provincial Police
Bureau, Region 5 said that his bureau would continue to suppress drug
trafficking and try to arrest the main drug dealers in the northern
region in the sixty days countdown for drug eradication.

A press conference was given to report on the arrest of Ajian, a
Burmese national and a member of the Wa minority group. He was
arrested smuggling 390,000 methamphetamine pills from the border area
into Thailand through Tambon Wiengpangkam in Mae Sai district, Chiang
Rai province on October 30.

He was arrested by the drug suppression police in combination with
personnel from the Office of Narcotic Control Board (ONCB), but his
two accomplices avoided capture. The accomplices believed to be Arfa
and Akab.

Commissioner Pol Lt. Gen Chalor said, "At this time, the provincial
police are trying to eliminate all 43 drug dealers still left on the
blacklists in the northern region. We expect that we will be able to
arrest all drug dealers before the ending of the sixty days countdown
for drug suppression."
