MCLELLAN DOESN'T DESERVE A PROMOTION
Re: "McLellan will get top cabinet job," Journal, Nov. 12.
Gee, I think she has to be re-elected first! This has never been easy for
her, and with her recent spectacular successes at Hemp Canada it won't be
easy this time.
If she does indeed win re-election and is handed an important economic
portfolio in a Martin cabinet, I fear for Canada's economic prosperity. For
all her potential, Anne McLellan has been a very poor cabinet minister
almost devoid of any real accomplishments!
Granted, she managed to secure Fort McMurray some tax deferrals as energy
minister -- a no-brainer. But she was an unmitigated disaster as justice
minister, and her performance in the health portfolio has been abominable.
As justice minister, she oversaw the implementation of Allan Rock's stupid
gun registry and managed to take a bad idea and make it worse! She also
disregarded the recommendations of her own party's well-researched report
on changes to the divorce act, choosing instead to replace it with the
ideas of some non-mainstream friends of hers.
As health minister, she has been ineffectual in negotiations with provinces
and her performance during the SARS crisis was panicked and incompetent.
Anne McLellan, as finance minister! It makes me shudder.
