PROVIDING TRUTH

As an employee of Berkeley County School District and Stratford High
School and a productive, caring citizen of South Carolina, I am
outraged at how irresponsible The Post and Courier was for printing
Kathleen Parker's commentary in Wednesday edition of your paper.

Parker's so-called facts are inaccurate and her comparisons are
ridiculous. If she believes that "kids are playing with the grown-ups"
where drugs are concerned, she must not live in the same world the
rest of us live in.

Publishing Parker's rubbish was "inexcusable, unacceptable and
un-American." The Post and Courier has a responsibility to provide
truth, not bogus survey data from a TV station in San Antonio.

If Parker had bothered to ask, here's what she would have been
told:

"In the wake of the controversial drug sweep, we would like to
publicly thank George McCrackin for taking action to ensure a safe
work and educational environment at Stratford High School. When an
administrator sees an activity that is improper, he must make a
decision to take appropriate action to resolve it. Mr. McCrackin acted
in the best interest of all students and faculty and should not be
criticized but congratulated for his effort.

"Do not let the squeaky wheels of society take away from the message
that he intended to send. There are people asking for his resignation,
which is sending the message of 'Take away the solution and ignore the
problem.' We have seen the results in other communities when problems
were ignored and do not want that here.

"We support Mr. McCrackin and rally to stand behind him."
