DARE-ING DEMONSTRATION
West Terrace Elementary School fifth-graders cover their ears during a
firearms safety demonstration Wednesday at the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's
training center on Kansas Road. The students were there as part of the DARE
program, which has been taking place at the training facility during the
past two weeks. The students began the morning with mentoring by four Reitz
High School students who talked to them about staying drug- and
alcohol-free in high school, emphasizing that it is not cool to do drugs.
Lt. Dennis Daniel of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department shows the
students his gun as he lectures them on gun safety and demonstrates some of
the weapons used by the department. The students also watched a K9
demonstration.
