MORE DRUG HISTORIES

Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. JOHN BORLING of Rockford, a guy with a
sunny disposition and a long military career that includes 6 1/2 years
in captivity in Hanoi, had this to say when he was asked if he had
ever used illegal drugs: "The closest I've ever come to a rush is when
the I ran with the bulls at Pamplona. I don't even like aspirin."

Borling, 63, is one of several Republicans seeking their party's
nomination for U.S. Senate in the March primary. I've been asking
candidates about their drug histories just to be fair, because some
candidates have been asked about the issue at news
conferences.

A Democratic candidate, Cook County Treasurer MARIA PAPPAS, says she
never touched the illegal stuff, either.

"No," she said, adding, "I don't drink. I'm allergic to alcohol. ...
Occasionally I have something really sweet."
