ALLOW CHOICE ON DRUGS

I really enjoyed reading the Nov. 25 editorial, "Drug Tests, Police
Sweeps Won't Win Drug War in Schools," and I wholeheartedly agree with
the conclusion, "Students should be educated about the dangers of drug
use, but they shouldn't be subjected to these types of indignities."
The drug prohibition, like alcohol prohibition, creates more problems
than it solves.

The drug prohibition leads to drugs being sold in black markets. The
black market leads to high crime and violence, especially in the inner
city areas. The drug prohibition has allowed many of our rights to be
stripped away and creates distrust of our law enforcement officers.

Instead of prohibition, our country should allow people to decide what
to put in their own bodies. Education and allowing free choice will do
much more good than holding students at gunpoint while their lockers
are raided.
