SNIFFER DOGS UNCOVER MARIJUANA AT TWO HIGH SCHOOLS

Narcotic officers with sniffer dogs turned up small
amounts of marijuana at two local high schools Friday, Nov. 28.

Two students - one each from the public and separate school boards -
were suspended.

Police nor the school boards will identify the schools where the
narcotics were uncovered or if criminal charges will be laid against
the students.

The drug search was part of a random check of local schools with the
co-operation of local school boards.

Police officers and nine dogs from several OPP detachments, the
Akwesasne Mohawk Police, Cornwall and Brockville Police and Canada
Customs took part in the search.

Madeliene Tarasick, a superintendent with the Limestone District
School Board, says discipline depends on the situation - the type of
drug seized, the amount, and whether it is the first offence.

Sharlene Hunter, an Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School
Board spokeswoman, says suspensions are automatic regardless of what
amount of drugs are discovered.
