DEATH PENALTY

NEW YORK - A drug dealer was convicted of murder Tuesday in a rare
death penalty case ordered by U. S. Attorney General John Ashcroft
against the advice of local prosecutors.

A federal jury in Brooklyn deliberated two days before finding Emile
Dixon guilty of murder and drug conspiracy.

At a second phase of the trial, set to begin Tuesday, the same jury
will decide whether Dixon should be executed or spend the rest of his
life behind bars. the death case is only the third in three decades in
Brooklyn's federal district.
