NAK'AZDLI WALKS FOR DRUG-FREE COMMUNITIES

Men, women and children from Nak'azdli First Nation took to the
streets for a couple of hours last Friday morning to bring awareness
to how drugs are hurting their kids and communities.

The staff at the Nak'azdli Health Centre organized the march through
the streets of the reserve to coincide with the National Day of Action
(June 29), which was organized by aboriginal bands across Canada.

Aileen Prince, health director, was one of the organizers.

"Since this is the National Day of Action we wanted to let people know
it's not outside our community, but it's things and people from
within, that's hurting us," said Prince.

The peaceful, energetic walk began at 10 a.m. and ended around
noon.

Prince said it's important to let people, especially the younger
generation, know they have choices and they need to teach them to make
healthy ones.

Gabby Joseph, 11, plans to avoid drugs.

"Drugs is bad," she said.
