WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE CHARTER?

It's about time that advocates of the supremacy of Parliament won a major
public policy case being fought before the courts. This is the way that
Canada is supposed to operate. So what is the purpose of the charter?
Should Parliament be free to pass any law, even one incarcerating all Jews?
The truth is that you and your establishment friends would very much like
to abolish the charter, but are too gutless to say so openly because of its
popularity with ordinary Canadians. Besides, converting Canada to a police
state and providing the impetus for organized crime will sell more
newspapers than if the country were, in general, contented and peaceful.
