WHILE CAMPBELL TANS
Re B.C.'s Campbell Left Reeling From Liberal Dose Of Sleaze (Jan. 1):
When it was discovered that a few NDP party members were skimming off funds
from a charity bingo, the B.C. premier of the day, Mike Harcourt, quickly
resigned even though he had nothing to do with it and even though it had
nothing to do with his party's governing. The media quickly labelled it
Bingogate and called for his head.
Here we have Liberal appointees, working within the upper echelons of the
government, under a cloud of suspicion over a police investigation into
drug smuggling, and Gordon Campbell doesn't even think it's worth cutting
short his annual Maui vacation, let alone resigning. If this were an NDP
government, the situation would have already been labelled "Drug-gate" and
the calls for Mr. Campbell to fall on his sword would be deafening.
