MILLBROOK MOUNTIES IMPOUNDING VEHICLES INVOLVED IN DRUG
TRAFFICKING
MILLBROOK -- Drug traffickers may have a hard time getting around if
they try doing business in Millbrook.
The RCMP arrested and charged a 19-year-old from Millbrook on Sunday
for possession of marijuana and possession for the purpose of
trafficking marijuana.
Then they impounded the man's 2000 Chevrolet Impala.
It is the second time this year they have impounded a vehicle related
to drug charges and have no intentions of stopping, says Sgt. Bill
Chisholm.
"They got to get the message, 'You come here and you want to feed off
the people here, there's a cost to pay,'" he told the Truro Daily News
yesterday. "We're zero tolerance for drug dealers."
Under the Criminal Code of Canada, police can seize "offence-related
property" including drug traffickers who use their vehicle to deal
drugs.
The Impala will be stored until the case is dealt with by the courts.
The judge can release the vehicle or have it auctioned off under the
proceeds of crime.
Chisholm said the move is another tool to send a strong message the
community doesn't want drug dealers in Millbrook.
"If they're dealing in dope, those are the people the band wants to
stop and we will seize their vehicle," he said.
At 3 a.m. Sunday, a Millbrook officer noticed the 19-year-old man
allegedly selling drugs to 14- and 15-year-old children. Police
stopped the suspect, seized money, scales and a small amount of marijuana.
The man is set to appear in Truro provincial court to answer to the
charges on Aug. 22.
