COVERT POLICE FORCE TO BE DEPLOYED TO 'SHABU COUNTRY'

Policemen on covert operations will be deployed in Barangay 2, which
is known as Bacolod City's "shabu country".

The barangay was placed under the Bacolod City Police Office's (BCPO)
seal-off project last September 25.

Supt. Sammy Rodriguez, the newly installed city police deputy chief
for Operations, said the covert forces would augment troopers of the
Regional Mobile Group (RMG) and Police Station 2 currently manning the
area.

Rodriguez, former deputy director for Logistics in Camp Crame Camp,
Quezon City, added the local police will focus their anti-drug
campaign against those listed in the police Order of Battle (OB) list.

Drug operatives disclosed that despite the seal-off in Barangay 2,
illegal drug traders use minors as runners or sell adulterated shabu
as "modus operandi".

Rodriguez also said Senior Supt. Mario Avenido, city police director,
briefed him on the city's drug situation.

He said even with the city police's citation from the Police Regional
Office (PRO) 6 in Camp Martin Delgado, Iloilo City, there will be no
let-up in their anti-illegal drug drive.

One arrested

SPO1 Vicente Canuday Jr., chief of the Intelligence Branch of Police
Station 1, arrested Row Subere, 25, of Cattleya St., Barangay
Mansilingan for illegal drug possession.

Subere was arrested inside a public utility jeepney Wednesday evening.
Confiscated was an elongated sachet of suspected shabu. The suspect is
detained at Police Station 1.
