EFFICIENT CROOKS

Peterborough, Ont. - The Massive Secret Inside Barrie's Former
Brewery (Jan. 12) tells the story of a hugely successful and
well-organized pot-growing operation that is, regrettably, illegal. By
contrast, the hugely expensive legal pot-growing establishment, set up
a few years ago in one of our western provinces to provide medicinal
marijuana to those with a legitimate need, has produced nary a toke.

Instead of leaving governance to the usual crowd of ambitious former
lawyers, perhaps we should just turn over all our ailing social
programs to the people on the other side of the judicial bench -- the
bona fide crooks seem able to turn a decent profit at just about anything.
