EDITOR: Who's the gooberhead? Jim Hightower deserves his own Gooberhead
Award for his Dec. 30 column regarding our coca eradication policy in Bolivia.

Cocaine has caused more misery to the American people than all the
terrorist acts ever committed against us, before or since its arrival from
South America. Our policy to target coca production is our best chance of
defeating cocaine. .

Our policy of taking the addict away from the drug (lock 'em up) is a
failure. The policy to take the drug away from the addict should be
expanded, fully funded and followed through until every coca plant is
destroyed.

We should all care less about the plight of the poor peasant Bolivian coca
farmers when the poison they willingly produce is destroying our families,
our people, and our country.
