ACLU TO RUSH'S AID - HOW DELICIOUS
Last week, I was musing that it would be a wonderful irony if the American
Civil Liberties Union would come to Rush Limbaugh's assistance ("Pill woes
land Limbaugh in Capitol debate," Jan. 8). Now, that event has come to
pass, as The Post reported Tuesday.
The conservative talk-show host has been the recipient of two liberal
presences in his life: a rehabilitation program -- which he sought out - -
that was no doubt founded by people compassionate enough to try to give
addicts another chance, rather than "lock them up"; and an organization
that defends one's liberties, regardless of whether it agrees with the
subject's viewpoints. Two entities of tolerance assisting a person with
less-than-tolerant viewpoints -- a rich irony indeed.
Given the same opportunity, I doubt that Mr. Limbaugh would come to the aid
of anyone else in a similar predicament. With his philosophy and
reputation, he is presumably incapable of doing what others do without a
second thought.
